Deleting your fb account

If you are certain that you wish to permanently delete your account, you should submit a request to have it permanently deleted. To do this, sign in to your account, scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the ‘Help Center’ link. On this page, click on ‘Privacy’ and you will be directed to a page on which a link related to account deletion will be found. Click on this link.

A list of questions will then be presented to you. Select on “How do I permanently delete my account?” Read the answer that is presented to you and follow the link provided to delete the account. A page should then be presented to you entitled ‘Delete My Account’. Read the information and click ‘Submit’.

You should then receive an auto-reply email from Facebook concerning your deletion. Read the contents of this email. Account deletion should occur after about a week. However, do not sign in to your Facebook account or your deletion request will become void. Once profile deletion has occurred you will be sent an email to confirm this. On receipt of this email, you should attempt to log into Facebook. If account deletion has occurred, you will not be asked to reactivate the account.

Once your Facebook profile has been permanently deleted, you can not undo deletion. You will be unable to achieve account reactivation or retrieve any content from your profile. It is advisable to delete all the information from your profile, not forgetting the messages in your inbox, wall posts, photos, applications and friend lists before submitting a request for permanent account deletion.

If you are unsure about deleting your Facebook account, deactivate it instead. Log into Facebook and click on ‘Account’ on the top right hand corner of the screen. This will bring up more options and from these options, select ‘Account Settings’. On the Account Settings page, select ‘Deactivate Account’. Facebook will ask you to provide a reason for deactivation. Select a reason and then click ‘Deactivate’.

Deactivating an account means that your profile and associated details will be made inaccessible to all Facebook users. Your account basically disappears from the site, however all profile information is retained by the system and should you wish to do so, you can reactivate it at any time. On reactivating your account, your profile page will look exactly the same as it did prior to deactivation.
